Howdy!!!!
This past weekend was very nice and a nice weekend to be out deer hunting.
I found myself not hunting too much as my youngest son had a bull dozer show to
clean up a few odd trees and I decided I would like to take a shot at running a
cat. It is strange how we always have our own fantasies of doing something and
one of mine happened to be run a cat. I really enjoyed the destructive mode a
person can get in and actually ran it on Saturday and Sunday. It was a very
bitter sweet weekend as my father had planted those trees and I had spent many
days helping clean those miserable things along with my sisters. The trees had
been there for many years so was very hard to see them leave. We also burnt
down our old house and let me tell you that were very difficult. The house did
need to be destroyed to not let rodents take over and also because the
possibility of somebody ever living in it again was non-existent. There were
many fond memories, of not only growing up there but also raising my kids in
that old girl.
“Farmers Night Out”
“Farmers night out” is planned for Tuesday, November 15 at the Memorial
Building, here in Devils Lake. There has been some confusion about the date but
this is the correct date. This program is fully designed to show, the Ag sector
of our community, how much they are appreciated throughout our Lake Region
Area. Producers of the lake region are cordially invited to attend this
evening, by obtaining free tickets for their family, from either the chamber
office or sponsoring sponsors. The night will begin at 6 pm with coffee and pop
refreshments and will continue on with a provided meal. The meal was very good
last year and am very sure will be very good this year as well. Our entertainer
for the evening will be Milo Hatcenbuhler. He is very energetic and funny. It
will definitely be a night for you to remember. Remember this is to be a
relaxing night for the Ag producers of the lake region. For more information
call the Devils Lake Chamber of Commerce or the Ramsey County Extension office.
“Ramsey County Extension”
I also found out this past weekend that many people do not fully understand
what Extension is fully about. I will try to explain in a few short sentences.
We are here to serve the community of Ramsey County. Our office provides
information that is research based with many specialists available to help
answer any questions that we may need help with. We are also both County and
State funded. Our office employs three people: Brenda Langerud (Extension
agent, Home economist), Cindy Olson (support staff) and Bill Hodous (Extension
agent, Agriculture). We help community members with questions from “how do we
can tomatoes”, “how do we grow tomatoes”, to “what is Antrax”. We offer
programming in many areas and if you think something is missing educationally
please stop by our office and we will be more than happy to help out anyway we
can. We work with all areas of our community from schools to farm meetings to
homemakers to 4-H and anything in between.
