Spring 4-H Council
The Spring Ramsey County 4-H Council meeting will be Tuesday, April 13 at the Ramsey County Courthouse Historical Room. We will begin at 6:00 pm with a light supper. If you have any agenda items please contact the Extension Office by April 7th. All interested leaders, parents and members are welcome.

ON LINE
A reminder that most Ramsey County 4-H information can also be obtained online. We have recently updated the Ramsey County 4-H page. It includes information on upcoming events. An item added to our page is called "Notes Between Newsletter". This will help keep you up-to-date on items received in the office between newsletters. All information will still be included in the printed newsletter. Also most forms are on the web. Achievement Day forms, etc. If you misplace your copy you can print one off the web. If you have questions or other ideas for our Ramsey County 4-H page please let us know. The site is:

Achievement Day Pre-registration
Pre-registration for the Ramsey County Achievement Days will be due in the Ramsey County Extension Office by June 11, 2004. Registration forms and exhibit books will be sent out the middle of May. Exhibit tags will be available at the registration table at Achievement Days. If you have questions on this procedure please contact our office.

COMMUNICATION ARTS

Please refer to last months newsletter or to the web site for information on changes in the Communication Arts program.

CONSUMER CHOICE CLASSES
The classes for 2004 are:

YYouth ages 8-10: Measuring equipment, snacks & watches
YYouth ages 11-18: savings & checking accounts; sleeping bags; & sport drinks & other beverages for active youth.

Mid Year Reports Due
Mid year reports were sent to each family in February. They are due back in the Extension Office by March 15. This would be your last opportunity to add any projects. Members not enrolled by this date will not be eligible to participate in 2004 events and activities. If you have questions or would like help filling out your mid year report please contact our office.

Fruit, Fruit, Fruit
Reminder that the fruit order forms are due in the Extension Office by Tuesday, March 16. All orders must be in by this date so the county order can be tallied and sent into the distributor.

Fruit will arrive on Saturday, April 3rd. Pick up will be from 8:15 am to 11:00 am at Peavey. If you are unable to pick up your fruit please make arrangements with someone in your club to pick it up during the pick up time. Please be patient as you pick up your order. We will process in an orderly manner to help eliminate any errors.

Summer Opportunities
4-H offers many summertime opportunities a few are:

YWestern 4-H Camp (gather a group of your friends, choose what kind of camp you are interested in, and have a memorable time attending)
YRamsey County 4-H Achievement Days
YNDSU Extension Youth Conference (for youth ages 13-18)
YNorth Dakota State Fair

ACHIEVEMENT DAYS
Ramsey County Achievement Days has been scheduled for June 25-26, 2004. Pre-registration and information on Achievement Days should be sent out in mid May. Information will also be available on the web.

Aerospace Event
Sunday, April 18 thru Monday, April 19.

Information and registration on the upcoming Aerospace Event has been received. The program is open to youth ages 12 to 15 who are interested in the field of aerospace. Youth must be accompanied by a chaperone. It is suggested that one adult accompany every four to five youth. Registration will be Sunday, April 18 from 12:30 to 2 pm at the Roadking Inn by

Columbia Mall, with the program beginning at 2:30 pm. The program will conclude by noon on Monday, April 19.

Natural Horsemanship
Parelli Natural Horsemanship is back in North Dakota. Faye Stortroen will be hosting Three Star Rated Parelli Natural Horsemanship Instructor Don Knapp in Watford City. This year they are doing a time share clinic series which will consist of Don coming to North Dakota for 4 (3) day weekends to help folks progress with their FNH journey. The events will be held at the McKenzie County Fairgrounds in Watford City, ND. The event will be held rain or shin as indoor access is available. There is only 1/2 spot for riding remaining (please contact Faye for prices/dates/requirements). There are unlimited auditor spots. The cost to audit is $25/day if watching only one day or $20/day for more than one day, with children 16 and younger free. The dates for the time share series are May 28_30, July 16_18, August 20_22, September 17_19. Contact Faye Stortroen at 701_675_2317 or by email at curlies@restel.net

Rabbit Workshop
The complete rabbit workshop for new and experience project members. Topics will include: *how to select a rabbit, *how to prepare your rabbit for a show, *what's showmanship all about?, *the care and feeding of rabbits, and *showing your rabbit. The workshop will be held Saturday, April 24, 2004 at 1:00 pm at the Burleigh County Extension Office Building (3715 E Bismarck Expressway, Bismarck). Cost of the workshop is $5, payable the day of the workshop. Pre_register by Monday, April 19 with SuAnn Olson, phone 258_3887 or call the Burleigh County Extension Office at 221_6865. There will be a limited number of rabbits available for sale. Please let them know when you register if you are interested in buying a rabbit. You need not own a rabbit to participate.

Youth Protection Policy
Volunteers play an important role in fulfilling the mission of 4-H, which is to create supportive learning environments for youth and adults to reach their fullest potential as capable, competent and caring citizens. The 4-H Youth Protection Policy represents a code of ethics which all volunteers and staff are expected to observe.

Every six years, volunteers and staff are asked to reaffirm their commitment to promoting the safety and well-being of all youth program participants by resubmitting a Behavioral Expectation Code of Ethics and a Volunteer Information for Recertificaiton.

In Ramsey County all 4-H volunteers were re-certified in 2002. If you would like more information on the 4-H Youth Protection Policy their web site is:
