Hello Everyone! I am your newest county agent, Bill Hodous. I am looking forward to working with Brenda, Cindy and meeting all you 4-Hers along with your parents. 4-H is a great learning experience and makes for a very solid foundation for future years. I used to be from Ramsey County and am looking forward to be back home. I was the extension agent in Ransom County, which had a very strong 4-H program.

Ransom County has a very large fair with over 1000 exhibits. 4-Hers exhibited 84 beef and 11 dairy. Rabbits were another large class with over 60 bunnies checking out the fair. We had a very large carnival along with all the other things that happened at the fair.

All counties are never the same but with your help we make our Achievement days bigger and better each year.

If you ever need any help with anything pertaining to 4-H, I am willing to work with Brenda to meet what ever needs you may have.

The Ramsey County 4-H Pancake Breakfast will be held October 3 at the Devils Lake KC Hall. Note the change in location!! Enclosed is a work schedule for all clubs. Each family received a book of tickets in the August mailing. Please sell the tickets you were mailed. Ticket sales really help increase our attendance.

Immediately following the clean-up of the pancake breakfast, we will hold our annual awards recognition. Members & leaders will be recognized for their accomplishment from the 2003-2004 4-H year. This will begin at approximately 1:30 pm, also at the KC Hall.

All families are then invited to move to Royal Lanes Bowling Alley following recognition to kick-off the 2004-2005 4-H year with bowling and pizza.

We hope all families will be able to join us for a day filled with 4-H fun and friends.

The Ramsey County 4-H Council will meet on Tuesday, October 5 at 6:00 pm with supper and the meeting will start by 6:30 pm. It will be held in the basement meeting room of the Ramsey County Courthouse. All leaders, and parents are encouraged to attend. Please mark October 5 on your calendar.

If you have anything you wish to discuss at council, please let the us know so we can get it on the agenda. Reminders and agendas will be sent out to leaders a week prior to the council meeting.

Enrollment forms have been sent to your 4-H leaders. Please fill them out and hand into the Extension Office by October 15, 2004. When we receive your enrollment forms we reactivate you for another 4-H year. This way you won’t miss any newsletters or important information.

We’ve accumulated more ideas for sessions and a few more instructors so 4-H Project Day 2005 is off and running. Project Day will be held on Saturday, March 19^th, in the Memorial Building, Armory and Courthouse in Devils Lake. Registration forms will be mailed in late January/ early February. Remember once you get your registration form return it as soon as possible, as six other counties will be returning their forms also and it is a first come first served basis for sessions.

Enclosed is an order form for 4-H shirts. We will be sending an order in for shirts September 24. If you are interested in ordering a shirt please return the enclosed form to the Extension Office by this date. Shirts could very possibly arrive before the pancake breakfast. Remember you can use clover points to purchase shirts. Check with Cindy to see how many points you have.

Every 4-H leader should have received a copy of the 2005 4-H Source Book in the mail. These were mailed directly from National 4-H Council. Extra copies are available in our office. The style and number of items with the 4-H Clover expands every year. This year’s book features over 100 new items.

Quilting Classes - Rose’s Stitch ‘n’ Sew will be offering beginning quilting classes. Requirements include: need to be at least 10-11 year old and should know basics of operating/threading their own machine. See enclosed flyer for more information.

4-H Day at the Dome - Minnesota Twins invite youth, parents & volunteers to a day of fun at the ball park. Sunday, September 19^th, 2004. See the enclosed flyer for ticket information.

Youth Loans - Youth loans area available through FSA to individual rural youths to establish and operate income-producing projects of modest size in connection with the participation of 4-H.

Glory Be - Information on Glory Be Collectibles is included with this mailing. If you would like to see a color copy of some of the items please contact your leader as they received additional information.

Ceramics - Karen’s Ceramics in Devils Lake is available to work with groups of youth. If you have a group that is interested in doing ceramics or if you would like to be included in a group please contact Karen at 662-8383.

There will be a Lake Region Livestock Expo Committee meeting on Monday, September 13. It will be held at 8:00 am in the Courthouse Historical. Anyone with interest is invited to attend.
