Date Change
Please note the change in date for the Consumer Choices contest. Ramsey County is hosting their event in conjunction with their Achievement Days on June 28th. As we share the class work ups with them and four other counties our event has been moved to Monday, June 25th. It will be hosted at the Rolette Memorial Hall of Rolette beginning at 7 pm.
Standards study sheet are included in this mailing. Your club leader has
received practice classes for you to practice with or you can check out a practice set from our office.
This event gives youth opportunity to practice analyzing information, identifying relevant information, application of logical reasoning and oral presentation skills. I hope you will attend and help your child develop these important life skills of decision making and public speaking. Top scoring individuals will advance to the State Consumer Choices contest, July 24th at the State Fair, Minot ND.
4-H Picnic
A county 4-H picnic
will be held Saturday, July 14th prior to the “Parade of
Champions” event. The picnic will begin at 5:30 pm. Anticipate a menu
similar to last year- barbequed beef sandwiches, potato salad, chips,
hotdogs, fruit and koolaid. The cost will be $5.50 for adults, $4.00 for
youth 6-10 years of age and youth 5 and under free. Grandparents, extended
family members and friends are invited to attend. Register the number
attending on your Achievement Day registration form.
Adding or Dropping Projects
You will find a print out of your current project enrollment with this mailing. Please fill out the drop/add form and return along with your Achievement Day pre-registration form. Be sure to enroll in any project areas you think you will be showing in at Achievement Days. You must be enrolled in the project area to receive ribbon premiums and for the exhibit to advance onto the State Fair.
Register for Achievement Days
Please identify the project exhibits you plan to bring to Achievement Days. The State Fair book will help you locate the class and lot number for each item. Feel comfortable in calling with questions. I am glad to assist you with this process.

4-H Communication Arts Contest
Dr. Seuss is an all time favorite author of children’s books. It is no wonder readings of “Fox in Socks”, “The Foot Book” and “Are You My Mother?” found their way into the
4-H Communication Arts contest, May 8th. For me it was wonderful, hearing my children’s favorite books read with such personification, clarity and rhythm. It was great. In fact all the entries were wonderful.
Participants in the contest included Kelsey Neameyer with an interpretive reading of “Big Wide Mouth”. “Paper Bag Princess” was shared as an interpretive reading entry by Savannah Bruce.
“Are You My Mother?” which happens to be my favorite Dr. Seuss book, was read with enthusiasm by Austin Stewart.
Kevin Parisien took on the challenge of a real tongue twister in the reading of Dr. Seuss’s “Fox in Socks”. I know I would never have been able to read the book without stumbling over all those challenging word combinations. Kevin read it wonderfully.
“The Foot Book” also a Dr. Seuss reading was read by Hunter Stewart.
Krystne Davis was inspired to read a poem about one of her favorite sports, baseball. She read the poem “Casey at the Bat”.
4-H members will be representing Rolette County at the District III Communication Arts event hosted in Leeds, June 5th. Advancing on to the district competition will be Savannah Bruce, Kelsey Neameyer, Krystne Davis, Kevin Parisien, Hunter Stewart.
Earning first place honors at the county level were earned by Savannah Bruce and Krystne Davis. Reserve place honor went to Kelsey Neameyer.
Serving as judges for
the county contest were Ron Carpenter and Ruby Lawler.
Project Expo 2007
Several County 4-H members showcased their learning in the Project Expo event.
This event asks youth to build and demonstrate their visual presentation and public speaking skills. Members develop a table top display related to a project in which they are enrolled. The display is to teach the audience a concept or skill.
Alexandria Brown presented an exhibit entitled “Guitar Mania”. Her exhibit shared information about guitars.
Jimmy Gilje’s display related to his beef project area. It dealt with preparing an animal for showing and was entitled “Fitting Supplies”.
From Sonja Gilje’s display, “Feeds for Beef”’, you learn the various feeds you could choose to feed your beef animal and their nutritive value.
Anne Brien showed how she used her sewing skills and ingenuity to create beds and bed covers for Barbie dolls. Her exhibit was entitled “Bed for Barbie”.
“Its in the Bag”, was the title of Claire Brien’s table top display. It outlined the steps to creating a jewelry storage bag using fabric and one’s sewing skills.
Esther Hanson chose to share information about water as her Health related entry. Her display, “Messages from Water”, illustrated the results of verbal messages in the formation of various shaped water crystals.
Receiving first place honors in their age divisions were Sonja Gilje, Esther Hanson and Jimmy Gilje.
Claire Brien, Alexandria Brown, Jimmy Gilje, Esther Hanson, Sonja Gilje and Anne Brien will advance to the State Showcase Event, Monday July 23, 2007 at the State Fair, Minot.
