I want to thank the community of St. John for their generous hosting of several area events. The area south of the school was busy with the Relay for Life and the Rolette County 4-H Achievement Day activities this past weekend. Both events showed the wealth of our local. Our people and the efforts they take to make the world a better place. Thanks to each of you who were involved in the efforts.

Achievement Days are always the highlight of the 4-H year. Youth share what they have learned and or created in their enrolled project areas. We had a nice gathering of exhibits in a wide range of project areas. Many of the exhibits were transported to the State Fair on Tuesday. They will once again be judged and placed on display through out the State Fair July 20-28th. Results of the Rolette County Achievement Day activities are included below:

Clothing Revue Show

The Rolette County 2007 4-H Clothing Revue, held Tuesday, July 11^th, included a variety of apparel including pajamas pants, recital dress, skirts, capris and tops. The county show consisted of entries in all three division the “Sew and Show”, the “Buy and Show” and the “Decorate Your Duds” divisions. This week two Rolette County 4-H members will be participating in the State 4-H Clothing Revue at the State Fair in Minot.

In the county show Anne Brien modeled rainbow striped Capri’s she made for the “Sew and Show” division. The Capri slacks were sewn from a cotton seersucker fabric and feature an elasticized waistband. They were worn with a coordinated white top sewn by Anne’s mother. Anne was awarded the Sew and Show Learnabouts trophy sponsored by the Rolla Kiwanis.

Teen member Esther Hanson modeled pajama pants that featured two side pockets as well as a back patch pocket and an elasticized waist band. The fabric sported dolphins and whales on a blue print background. The fabric was a perfect selection for a teenager with a like for dolphins and whales. Esther earned a blue ribbon with her “Sew and Show” entry.

A beautifully sewn pink skirt and matching top is what Claire Brien created for the style show. The three tiered gathered skirt was made from hot pink cotton batik fabric. The coordinated white knit top featured an appliquéd butterfly and a lower band made of the pink batik fabric. Claire was awarded the “Pre-Teen Sew and Show” trophy sponsored by Boyum Law Office of Rolla. Claire will be wearing her creation at the State Fair 4-H Clothing Revue Show, Monday July 23^rd.

Esther Hanson will be dancing her way to the State 4-H Clothing Revue Show in her lovely blue dance recital dress.  She embellished her dress with appliqués and beadwork. Her “Decorate Your Duds” entry is beautiful and will be worn it at future dance performances. The “Decorate Your Duds” trophy, sponsored by the Golden Rule of Rolla, was awarded to Esther. Esther will represent Rolette County in the “Decorate Your Duds” division at the State 4-H Clothing Revue Show in Minot, July 23rd.

Esther participated in the “Buy and Show with her versatile, attractive and economical knit top. The black knit top featured beige horses and a v-neckline slightly gathered at the tip. Esther wore it with a khaki colored skort. Esther completed the look with matching shoes and necklace. The Golden Rule of Rolla sponsored the “Buy and Show” trophy presented to Esther for her award winning entry.

Ellen Dunlop judged the Rolette County 4-H Clothing Revue. The event was hosted at Mount Pleasant School of Rolla. We appreciate the support of the Rolla School and area volunteers for contributing to the development of area youth.
