Range Plants Handbook Available
Summer is approaching and range plants are growing.
The North Dakota State University Extension Service has a handbook, "Selected North Dakota and Minnesota Range Plants", that can help you identify many of the common range plants you’ll see.
The 270-page spiral-bound handbook includes 123 species. The publication contains detailed botanical descriptions, color photos, drawings of plant parts and maps showing where the plants can be found. The book also includes plants´ scientific names, subspecies names and synonyms, and a glossary to help the reader with unfamiliar terms.
This publication was designed to give land managers and nature enthusiasts a book to identify flowering plants and grasses in a pasture or during a nature walk. Each plant narrative describes the value for livestock and wildlife.
The handbook is available through the NDSU Agriculture Communication Distribution Center for $20.50, which includes postage and handling costs. Contact the NDSU Distribution Center, or stop by the Stark-Billings County Extension Office.
