NDSU Offers Replanting or Late Planting Crops Publication

Most producers will be planting crops later than normal this year.

To assist producers, the North Dakota State University Extension Service has a revised version of the publication Replanting or Late Planting Crops.

The publication was revised by Gregory Endres, area Extension specialist cropping systems; Hans Kandel, Extension agronomist broadleaf crops; and Joel Ransom, Extension agronomist grass crops.

The publication primarily deals with crop replanting decisions, but also provides relevant information on delayed crop planting. Two tables in the publication give expected yield reductions of common crops based on NDSU research when planting after mid and late May.

For example, expected yield loss per day with flax planting after May 15 is 2.3 percent, while corn yield loss is 1 percent per day if planting after May 15 and 2 percent per day after late May.

A third table provides a quick reference of the latest planting dates for various crops.
