| Placings
Placings are the order in which you rank the choices of items in the class. You will determine which would be the best choice for this situation, which would be second best, third best and which would be the poorest choice. To help you make your decisions draw a grid on the back of your judging card or on a sheet of paper. Standards from the situation statement are listed on the left and class items that are numbered go across the top. The grid for this situation looks like this:
Study the four class items and place an X by the standard that each
item meets. When necessary, put in prices, fat grams or other important
numbers to help you decide on the placing of this class. After looking
at these class items your grid should look like this:
To find the top placing, look at the grid and compare the items to find the one which meets the top standard or standards. Continue comparing until one item exceeds the other with one of the standards. Compare the remaining items and select the one which best meets the top standards. Another method for placing a class may be to select the top two and the bottom two items. Always remember to consider the standards in order of importance! Just because an item has the most X's does not necessarily mean that it would be the top choice. Look at the grid for Tanner's choices for pets. Items #3, and #4 meet the first standard, they are all cuddly pets. Items #1 and #2 are not a cuddly pet, so that will make them your 3rd or 4th choice. Comparing #3 and #4, you can see that only #4 meets the second standard, a pet that doesn't need daily care. That means that #4 would be your first choice and #3 would be your second choice according to these standards. To determine the 3rd and 4th choice, compare #1and #2. #1 does not meet any of the standards, so it would be your last choice. You would place this class of pets 4-3-2-1. |
