4-H Celebrates The Power of YOUth During National 4-H Week 4-H’ers across the nation will celebrate the 4-H youth development movement’s nearly seven million members and more than 600,000 volunteers and their commitment to a world in which youth and adults learn, grow, and work together as catalysts for positive change during National 4-H Week from Sunday, October 5, 2003, to Saturday, October 11, 2003. “The Power of YOUth” is the theme of this year’s National 4-H Week. The 4-H youth development movement empowers youth to reach their full potential working and learning in partnership with caring adults. Youth are powerful, energetic, committed members of society, whose strength as leaders is the core of the 4-H youth development movement. Youth have the power to contribute significantly to communities, to be equal and caring partners, to create positive change, and to imagine new possibilities and directions. As young people learn, building their skills and knowledge, their power increases. The 4-H youth development movement brings young people and their families together with volunteers, community members, and professionals in a powerful partnership through which all learn and grow. Two hundred and forty four 4-H’ers, fifty 4-H volunteer leaders, and 4-H staff from North Dakota State University Cooperative Extension, Williams County will commemorate National 4-H Week and celebrate the Power of YOUth all week long 4-H youth development takes Land-Grant University knowledge and expertise to youth in urban, suburban, and rural communities across the nation. 4-H volunteer leaders and more than 3,500 professional educators encourage youth ages 5-19 to participate in a variety of activities from aerospace to zoology that emphasize 4-H’s “learning by doing” philosophy. Hands-on projects range from citizenship to expressive arts, consumer science, environmental education, leadership, and technology as well as animal and plant sciences. |
