The annual Cow-Calf Day at the North Dakota State University Carrington Research Extension Center will be Tuesday, Feb. 3, from 1 to 5:30 p.m. The center is located 3.5 miles north of Carrington on Highway 281.
John Dhuyvetter, area extension livestock specialist at Minot, will discuss alternative calving dates, benefits and disadvantages; Dr. Allan Hoverson, Cooperstown Veterinary Clinic, will talk about handling calving difficulties; Karl Hoppe, area extension livestock specialist at Carrington, will lead a fed-cattle grading and pricing demonstration using market-ready steers; Steve Metzger, Carrington adult farm management coordinator, will talk about cow-calf budget opportunities in an up cattle cycle; Russ Danielson, associate professor of animal science at NDSU, will talk about "What's Important in Beef Cattle Alliances"; and Kurt Froelich, Foster County extension agent, will talk about options for owning your calves through finish.
The workshop will conclude with a discussion on what animal diseases are prevalent and how to use the NDSU Diagnostic Lab, presented by George Schamber, pathologist at NDSU.
