North Dakota Stored Grain Pest Management and Fumigation Certification Meetings Scheduled

Training sessions on stored grain pest management and fumigation will take place across North Dakota in February.

The training will meet requirements to certify commercial or private applicators in the fumigation category, according to John Sellie, acting pesticide programs coordinator for the North Dakota State University Extension Service. Commercial applicators or dealers who are currently certified in the fumigation category may be recertified by attending one of the meetings.

The meetings will be held at the Holiday Inn in Bismarck on Feb. 11 and the Doublewood Inn in Fargo on Feb. 25. The meetings will begin with registration at 8:00 a.m. People obtaining their initial certification may take the certification examination immediately following the meeting.

The registration fee is $40 for commercial applicators and $16 for private applicators. People planning to take the examination should bring a calculator and a form of identification with a photo on it.

A homestudy training packet is available to commercial applicators unable to attend the meetings. The packet can be ordered from the NDSU Extension Pesticide Program office.

For more information, contact the NDSU pesticide programs office at (701) 231-7180.

Sellie says a major component of the sessions will be pest management in stored grain with an emphasis on preventing infestations so that fumigation is not necessary. Featured speakers include Andrew Thostenson, NDSU pesticide coordinator; Phillip Glogoza, NDSU Extension entomologist; Ken Hellevang, NDSU Extension engineer; and Lloyd Welsh, Ecolab.
