Sheep Seminar Scheduled for Feb. 12 in Dawson

The North Dakota State University Extension Service will hold a sheep seminar at the Town Hall in Dawson on Thursday, Feb. 12, beginning at 11 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m.

To open the program, NDSU Extension sheep specialist Roger Haugen will review research on feeding naked oats to lambs and ewes. Jack Dahl, a research specialist, and Tim Faller, director of NDSU's Hettinger Research Extension Center, will discuss research on controlling leafy spurge with sheep.

Faller will also lead an afternoon session on low-labor sheep production. Dave Merwin, a Hettinger area sheep producer, will review Iowa lamb feeding contracts.

NDSU Extension veterinarian Charlie Stoltenow will discuss food safety issues and scrapie associated with sheep production. Staff from the Steele Veterinary Clinic will close the program with a review of strategies for keeping baby lambs alive and healthy.
