Sugar Beet Grower Seminars Scheduled in January and February

Sugar beet grower seminars are set for Jan. 30 in Fargo at the Holiday Inn, Feb. 3 in Grand Forks at the Ramada Inn, Feb. 4 in Grafton at the Parish Center and Feb. 5 in Wahpeton at the Eagles, each seminar beginning with coffee at 9 a.m. and running until 3:30 in the afternoon. The seminars are free and open to the public.

Presenters include Carol Windels, plant pathologist at the University of Minnesota at Crookston, talking about root rot management, rhizomania, and tachigaren and tolerant variety use; Allan Cattanach, North Dakota State University and University of Minnesota extension sugar beet specialist, talking about corn and other crop choices for sugar beet rotations; Larry Smith, superintendent of the University of Minnesota Northwest Experiment Station at Crookston, discussing soil fertility, sampling and tillage; and Alan Dexter, NDSU and University of Minnesota extension sugar beet weed specialist, talking about micro rates for herbicides for sugar beets, Roundup and Liberty link results, variety tolerance to herbicides and tough weed problems.

The seminars are sponsored by the NDSU and University of Minnesota extension services and experiment stations, USDA, and the Sugarbeet Research and Education Board of Minnesota and North Dakota.
