A two-day sheep school will be held in Hettinger on Feb. 26-27, sponsored by the North Dakota State University Hettinger Research Extension Center and the NDSU and South Dakota State University extension services.
"The school will have a special focus on producers who want to have lambs slaughter ready at a particular time," notes Tim Faller, director of NDSU's Hettinger Research Extension Center. "Hitting those specific market windows is becoming more important as sheep producers contract their lambs. We'll look at genetics, management, nutritionall the factors that are required to do that."
The school will also cover a wide variety of production situations that producers typically encounter during a year. The school is geared to new and existing producers and will include information on the latest technology available.
Instructors from NDSU, SDSU and the sheep industry will present the course with help from county extension agents.
Tuition is $25 per person or $35 for two people from the same operation. Couples are encouraged to attend. The deadline for enrolling is noon (Mountain Standard Time) on Monday, Feb. 23. Space is limited.
