The fourth annual Site-Specific Farming Workshop, set for Feb. 26 at the Holiday Inn in Fargo, will provide updates on research related to site-specific farming as well as a chance to see what commercial providers of site-specific farming equipment, software and services have to offer. The program begins at 8:30 with sessions on "Site-specific Farming Basics for Beginners" and "Directed Sampling with Topography as a Logical Basis," presented by Dave Franzen, soils specialist with the North Dakota State University Extension Service.
A number of other topics will be covered during the day's sessions, including "Profitability of Site-Specific Fertilizer Application in Sugarbeet and On-Farm Testing Concerns" by Allan Cattanach, extension sugar beet specialist, and "Profitability and Environmental Benefits of Site-Specific Fertilizer Application in Wheat, Barley, Corn and Sunflower" by Vern Hofman, extension agricultural engineer.
Exhibitors representing companies in the field mapping, controlling, GPS receiver and related industries will be available during the day.
"Site-specific farming has become a part of farm life in many parts of the United States, and has a firm foothold in North Dakota," says Franzen. "Producers are beginning to think of management within fields instead of management by field boundary."
Registration fee is $20 at the door. For more information call (701) 231-8881.
