The annual Dickinson Research Extension Center summer field day, set for Wednesday, July 8, will highlight livestock production, crop rotation, crop fertility, horticulture and soil management techniques. The day begins with coffee at 7 a.m. to give visitors a chance to enjoy the arboretum and the grounds before the program begins.
The livestock portion of the program will feature swine research, range research and winter grazing research, and will be led by Lee Manske, area extension livestock specialist at Dickinson. It will run from 9 a.m. to noon at the extension center ranch southwest of Manning, N.D.
The crops program will run from 9 through the afternoon at the center grounds in Dickinson and will feature small grain variety trails in the morning. The afternoon session will focus on management techniques that producers can use for soil management, risk reduction and cropping systems. Pat Carr and Roger Ashley, agronomists at the center, will preside.
Also, Jerry Larson, extension agent for Stark and Billings counties, will lead a tour to showcase horticultural research at the center, beginning at 3:30.
The event, hosted in cooperation with the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce, will conclude with an Ag Producer/Agribusiness Barbecue that begins at 5 in the evening. Tickets for the barbecue can be obtained from local sponsors.
