Income Tax Management Program Scheduled for Ag Producers

A Tax Management for Ag Producers program will be offered to tax preparers and agricultural producers from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Central Standard Time) on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at nine interactive video sites in North Dakota.

The program, sponsored by the North Dakota State University Extension Service and the Internal Revenue Service, will focus on recent changes in tax legislation and will feature presentations by Steve Eckroth with EideBailly in Bismarck; Gay Blazek, IRS agent, Fargo; Steve Troyer, Farm Accounting and Tax Service, Fargo; Brenda Laub, Farm Credit Services, Valley City; and Terry Knoepfle with NDSU's business administration department.

Topics include income averaging for farmers, strategies for using deferred-payment contracts and installment sales, tax implications of loan deficiency payments, tax consequences to exit farming and the IRS taxpayer advocate program. There will be updates on capital gains, child and tuition credits, section 179, Conservation Reserve Program payments as selfemployment income and the Roth IRA. Also, there will be discussions on planning self employment taxes to achieve certain benefit levels and on estate planning.

Four question-and-answer periods are scheduled during the three-hour program. Preregistration is required, as seating is limited at each site. The cost for the program and materials is $8 for the first person from an operation and $4 for the second, with one set of materials provided.
