Feeds and Nutrition Short Course Scheduled in Minot for Feb. 24

New information on alternative feeds, feeding management and nutritional disorders will be featured at a feeds and nutrition short course scheduled to fun from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at the Comfort Inn in Minot.

The opening session will feature terminology and concepts of beef cattle nutrition requirements, with a focus on fiber, energy, vitamins, minerals and various forms of protein. A second session will feature new feed alternatives including crop processing coproducts, alternative crops, crop residues and new feed additives. Additional discussion will focus on determining price guidelines for alternative feeds.

A session on feeding management and supplement considerations in the afternoon will feature information on various feeding systems, feed delivery and bunk management, feed processing guidelines, moisture considerations and supplement delivery options. The closing session will outline causes, prevention and treatment of nutritional disorders including acidosis, bloat and those caused by mycotoxins, nitrates and sweet clover poisoning.

The program will be presented by the North Dakota State University Extension Service. A registration fee of $15 is due by Monday, Feb. 15.
