McLean County 4-H'er Named Member of National Technology Group
Jason Suydam of Garrison is representing North Dakota on the 1999 National 4-H Youth Technology Corps, a group of 12 members from across the United States. Suydam, age 16, is a seven-year member of the Flickertail Farmers 4-H Club.
"Jason is the first North Dakota 4-H'er to be chosen as a tech corps member," says Joe Courneya, 4-H youth education design specialist at North Dakota State University. "Jason's past involvement in the virtual 4-H project, his creation of an electronic resume to enhance his tech corps application, and his interest in developing a technology corps here in North Dakota were key factors in his selection."
In mid-February, Suydam's group will attend a technology training seminar in Raleigh, N.C. With their training completed, Suydam and the other youth will be responsible for developing and maintaining the National 4-H Youth Web site (http://www.4-h.org), and they will also provide technology support and training at this year's National 4-H Conference in Washington, D.C.
In North Dakota, Suydam will lead technology training activities covering such topics as the general use of the Internet, e-mail, HTML, graphics, programming, chat, multimedia and Web page construction. This training will be coordinated through the North Dakota 4-H program, Courneya says.
The other states represented on the 1999 National 4-H Youth Technology Corps are California, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Iowa, Idaho, Alabama, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Virginia, Minnesota and Florida. Sponsors of this technology group are the Children, Youth and Family Education Resource Network (CYFERNet) and the Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES).
