Canola Production Meeting at Carrington

Canola harvest is nearing completion, and growers are reviewing performance of the 1999 crop and considering the opportunity to plant some of their 2000 canola acreage this fall. These topics will be addressed at a canola production meeting at North Dakota State University's Carrington Research Extension Center on Wednesday, Sept. 29, according to Greg Endres, extension area agronomist.

The meeting will start at 9 a.m. with registration and refreshments and a report from the Northern Canola Growers Association. A review of the 1999 production season will include factors that may have contributed to generally disappointing yields, followed by an overview of canola research results at the Carrington center.

The second portion of the meeting will be devoted to fall dormant-seeding canola. NDSU agronomists will share research data and recommendations on field requirements, environmental considerations, seeding techniques, soil fertility, weed management and other production factors. A grower panel will discuss experiences with dormant seeding, and seed industry representatives will share information and opportunities for growers.

For additional information contact the Carrington center at (701) 652-2951 or at gendres@ndsuext.nodak.edu  by e-mail.
