New Beef Cattle Handbook Available on CD

Researchers and extension specialists from across the region have contributed 145 articles and bulletins to a new publication, The Beef Cattle Handbook, now available on compact disk.

This 632-page electronic handbook covers reproduction; agribusiness and business management; nutrition; production management; quality assurance with regard to carcass and end products; health and entomology; facilities and equipment; environmental stewardship; pasture, range, and forage management; and breeding and genetics.

The CD is searchable to allow readers to easily find articles on specific topics.

The Beef Cattle Handbook was developed by the Beef Cattle Resource Committee of the North Central Land Grant Universities which includes North Dakota State University. Cost of the Beef Cattle Handbook CD is $25. It can be purchased from Extension Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, P.O. Box 5626, NDSU, Fargo, ND 58105-5626. The CD can be viewed at NDSU Extension Service county offices.

A paper version of the material on the CD also is available for $50. The section on facilities and equipment primarily relates to handling facilities. Additional beef facilities are covered in the Beef Housing and Equipment Handbook, MWPS-6, which covers cow- calf, feeding and handling facilities. This handbook is available from Extension Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering for $7.
