Oilseed Day at NDSU's Carrington Research Extension Center Set for December 9

Oilseed Day is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, at North Dakota State University's Carrington Research Extension Center. The event is being organized and conducted by the NDSU Extension Service and Carrington Research Extension Center, and it will provide updates on the production and economics of canola, flax, soybean and sunflower.

The program will kick off with an oilseed market outlook and production economics review. Sclerotinia management will be a topic, and the biology and management of sclerotinia in oilseeds will be an important feature of the meeting, says Greg Endres, extension area agronomist.

Canola topics to be discussed include: yield-limiting factors, cultivar selection and weed management. A panel of experienced flax growers will discuss their techniques for successful flax production. A soybean research update will provide growers with data to aid in several production aspects of this oilseed. Sunflower topics to be discussed include NewSun hybrid performance and a market update, weed competition and control options, management of sunflower midge and other insects, and a review of tools for blackbird management.

For more information, contact the Carrington Research Extension Center at (701) 652-2951 or e-mail Endres at gendres@ndsuext.nodak.edu . Information about the event is also available through the NDSU Extension Service offices in Wells and Stutsman counties.
