The fifth annual Tri-State Corn Symposium will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 14, at the Fargo Holiday Inn. This educational event will provide corn growers with information related to the production and marketing of high-quality corn for processing.
Sponsors are the North Dakota State University Extension Service offices in Cass and Richland counties, the University of Minnesota Extension Service offices in Clay and Wilkin counties, the South Dakota State University Extension office in Roberts County, and the Golden Growers Cooperative, based in Fargo.
The symposium's program will begin at 9 a.m. with a panel discussion on genetically modified (GM) crops. Panelists will include representatives from industry and the National Corn Growers Association, a policy analyst, and NDSU corn breeder Marcelo Carena. Four concurrent sessions will run from 11 a.m. until noon and continue from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. The focus of the concurrent sessions will be on economic weed control, herbicide-resistant weeds, corn research at NDSU and production tips, along with a herbicide update. Presenting the sessions are researchers from NDSU and the University of Minnesota.
The keynote address, "Corn in the Next Millennium," will come during the luncheon, scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. The keynote speaker is Kyd Brenner with the National Corn Refiners Association. An exhibit hall will be open throughout the symposium.
There is a $10 charge for attending the event, and the deadline to preregister is Friday, Jan. 7. Those planning to attend can make their checks payable to the Cass County Extension Service and mail the checks to the NDSU Extension Service, Cass County, P.O. Box 2806, Fargo, ND 58108-2806.
