A two-day conference on agroforestry specialty products will be held on Tuesday, March 7, and Wednesday, March 8, at the Grand Forks Ramada Inn. The educational program will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday and conclude at about 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Landowners and natural resource professionals who attend will learn about income opportunities to be derived from native and planted trees in North Dakota, northwest Minnesota and southern Mannitoba.
"Edible products will be covered during the first day, and specialty wood products and marketing will be addressed the second day," says Marcus Jackson, extension forester at NDSU.
University personnel from NDSU, the University of Saskatchewan and Moorhead (Minn.) State University will be among the featured speakers, as will representatives from the forestry industry and the Natural Resources Conservation Service. The topics include the following:
The conference is being partially funded through a grant from the Natural Resources Conservation Service. The registration fee is $25 before Friday, Feb. 25, and $35 thereafter. Included in the fee are refreshments for three breaks and two noon meals. Make checks payable to the NDSU Extension Service. There will be no refunds after Wednesday, March 1. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Grand Forks Ramada Inn until Feb. 25. Room reservations can be arranged by calling 1-800-570-3951.
