Field Tour Set for June 20 at NDSU Grasslands Center near Streeter

The 19th annual field tour at North Dakota State University's Central Grasslands Research Extension Center (CGREC) near Streeter will run from 6 p.m. to about 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20. The center is located four miles north of Streeter or 11 miles south of I-94 on Highway 30, and from that point, five miles west along Stutsman County Road 38 and then a quarter mile south.

The tour will start at the office near the livestock unit, says Paul Nyren, CGREC director. Presentations on hay baler safety, living snow fences and forage quality will be part of the educational program. In addition, NDSU researchers will discuss the following topics:

• Evaluation of Creep Feeding 90 Days Before Weaning in the Missouri Coteau--Joel Caton, NDSU animal and range sciences department, and Greg Lardy, NDSU Extension Service.
• The Palatability, Quality and Production of Cool- and Warm-Season Grasses--Kevin Sedivec, NDSU Extension Service.
• Defoliation Applied at Some Growth Stages Negatively Affects Plant and Animal Performance--Lee Manske, NDSU Dickinson Research Extension Center.

A free roast beef supper for tour participants will be held at the Streeter Memorial Hall after the tour. In addition, door prizes will be awarded.
