The second annual Dakota Feeder Calf Show is scheduled for Oct. 13 and 14 in Turtle Lake, N.D.
"The show is designed to promote commercial cattle and help producers gain insight into how their cattle finish," says Pat Carpentier, North Dakota State University Extension agent in McLean County.
Total prizes of $2,000 will be awarded with four prizes in live judging and four prizes given based on carcass data collected next spring.
Producers must enter a pen of three 500- or 700-pound steers. The show is open to all breeds and crossbreeds. Entry fee is $60. Cattle will be sold on yield and grade with feed and other costs deducted. Carcass and production data will be provided to entrants.
"This show is an excellent way for producers to learn more about how their cattle perform on the feedlot. Its also a good way to promote stock, especially for purebred producers," Carpentier says.
The show is sponsored by the Turtle Lake Commercial Club. For more information on the show and entry requirements, contact Carpentier at (701) 462-8541 or Ernie Ward at the Bank of Turtle Lake, (701) 448-2323.
