The annual convention of the North Dakota lamb and Wool Producers Association is set for Oct. 27 and 28 at the Seven Seas motel in Mandan. The Dakota Lamb Growers Cooperative joins as a partner in the convention.
The event opens at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27, with a social featuring free lamb provided by the cooperative. A lamb meat quality and cutting demonstration by North Dakota State University meat scientist Paul Berg will follow. There will also be an update on NDSU’s hair sheep project by extension sheep specialist Roger Haugen. The evening will conclude with an association fund raising auction with items donated by producers and items and memorabilia from the production of the movie, "Wooly Boys."
Saturday’s program includes an informational meeting on the Dakota Lamb Growers Cooperative; an American Sheep Institute update by ASI president Cindy Siddoway; an update from the N.D. Wildlife Service by director Phil Mastrangelo; information on scrapie from North Dakota state veterinarian Larry Schuler; and a review of lamb feeding research by NDSU livestock nutritionist Marc Bauer and Tim Faller, director of NDSU’s Hettinger Research Extension Center.
The noon luncheon and awards program will feature the state "Make It Yourself with Wool Contest."
