Three in-depth schools on livestock marketing will be offered in December and January to cattle producers located in central and northeastern North Dakota.
The series of four six-hour classes will cover development of marketing plans, strategies, and improved market timing as well as the use of futures and options strategies for managing risk. In addition, technical analysis will focus on trend identification and market timing. The schools, sponsored by the North Dakota State University Extension Service, will be conducted at three locations. Classes begin Dec. 13 at Park River, Dec. 14 at Valley City and Dec. 15 at Gackle. Subsequent classes will be held later in December and January. A fifth class will be conducted in October 2001 as a follow-up.
Registration for each school is limited to 30. The schools will be filled on a first response basis. Pre-registration is due by Nov. 15. Cost for the course is $200. A husband and wife will be considered as one person. Scholarships may be available.
The instructor, Bruce Bainbridge, mixes personal experiences with applied and basic information. His entertaining presentations emphasize the use of marketing tools to make better marketing decisions. Bainbridge earned a Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University in agricultural economics and holds an MBA from Regis College. He has experience as a commodity exchange floor trader, commodity broker, cooperative extension marketing specialist, farm and ranch manager, and international marketing consultant.
