Interactive Income Tax Management Program Scheduled for Dec. 1

A "Tax Management for Ag Producers" program will be offered to agricultural producers and tax preparers from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Central Standard Time) on Friday, Dec. 1, at nine interactive video sites in North Dakota.

The program, sponsored by the North Dakota State University Extension Service and the Internal Revenue Service, will feature presentations by Steve Eckroth, with Eide Bailly LLP, Bismarck; Gay Blazek, Internal Revenue Service agent, Fargo; Steve Troyer, Farm Accounting and Tax Service, Fargo; Brenda Laub, Farm Credit Services, Valley City; and Terry Knoepfle with NDSU's business administration department.

Topics covered include: strategies of income averaging for farmers, deferral of crop insurance and disaster aid income, the new method of calculating MACRS depreciation on like-kind exchanges, tax strategies for funding college education, FSA recapture of previously discharged FmHA debt, e-filing and estate tax issues. The proper tax treatment of refinanced interest, CRP and land rent income, marketing loans, and sugar beet PIK income will also be presented.

Four question-and-answer periods are scheduled during the three-hour program. Preregistration is required, as seating is limited at each site. The cost for the program and materials is $8.

Interactive video sites for the program will be at 228 Vo-Tech Center, Bismarck State College; 172 Administration Building, Lake Region State College, Devils Lake; Room 104, North Campus, Dickinson State University; Room 220 Walster Hall, NDSU, Fargo; 130 Gamble Hall, University of North Dakota, Grand Forks; 320 State Hospital Education Building, Jamestown; 158 Administration Building, Minot State University; 120 Main Building, Williston State College; and 117 Mildred Johnson Library, North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton.
