NDSU Carrington Research Extension Center Cow-Calf Seminar Set for Feb.

New developments in the beef industry will be highlights of the annual
cow-calf seminar on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the North Dakota State University
Carrington Research Extension Center.
The event begins at 1 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The
program is scheduled to last until 5:30 p.m. The Carrington Research
Extension Center is located 3 1/2 miles north of Carrington on Highway 281.

Topics for the seminar include:
- An update on anthrax in North Dakota by Allen Hoverson of the
Cooperstown Veterinary Clinic.
- A primer on resources on the Internet for beef producers by Kurt
Froelich, NDSU Extension Service agent in Foster County.
- A discussion of the role of electronic identification in the future of
the beef industry by Greg Lardy, NDSU Extension Service beef specialist.
- Strategies for developing heifers for good lifetime performance by
John Dhuyvetter, NDSU area livestock specialist.
- A briefing on livestock waste and pollution control regulations by Bob
Flath, coordinator of the Cottonwood Creek Watershed near LaMoure.
- A review of financing programs for cattle by Ron Anheluk, from the
Bank of North Dakota.
- An update on livestock research at the Carrington Research Extension
Center by Vern Anderson, animal scientist at the center.
- Updates on industry developments including the Dakota Halal Processing
Company by Karl Hoppe, NDSU area livestock specialist, and the North
Dakota Barley Feeders by Anderson.
