NDSU Carrington Research Extension Center Sheep Seminar Set for Feb. 22

New developments in the sheep industry will be highlights of the annual sheep seminar on Thursday, Feb. 22, at the North Dakota State University Carrington Research Extension Center.

The event begins at 1 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The program is scheduled to last until 5 p.m. The Carrington Research Extension Center is located 3 1/2 miles north of Carrington on Highway 281. Topics for the seminar include:

  • An update on the hair sheep research project at NDSU by Roger Haugen, NDSU Extension Service sheep specialist.
  • A briefing on club lamb fungus and other sheep diseases by Susan Keller, North Dakota assistant state veterinarian.
  • A review of techniques to protect sheep from predators by Mark Zaun of Animal Damage Control, Carrington.
  • A discussion of uses for wool by Janet Jacobson, a sheep producer from Wales in Cavalier County.
  • A review of feeds and feeding for the ewe by Haugen.
  • A discussion of the out-of-season lambing and the "Easy Sheep" projects at the NDSU Hettinger Research Extension Center by Tim Faller, director of the center.
  • An update on the Lamb Grower’s Cooperative by Haugen.
