Farm View Conference Scheduled for March 19 in Jamestown

The Farm View 2001 conference for those assessing their current farm situation and looking to the future is scheduled for Monday, March 19, at the Dakota Inn in Jamestown.

"The event will help farm families explore options and show them some of the resources that are available to them," says Eunic Sahr, Stutsman County Extension Agent and one of the conference organizers.

A $5 registration fee per person includes admission to all sessions, a luncheon and a door prize drawing. Registrations are due by March 9. Mail registrations to Farm View 2001, Job Service North Dakota, P.O. Box 780, Jamestown, ND 58402-0780.

The conference begins with check in at 8 a.m. Free health screenings will be available and a resource room with information from more than 15 agencies ranging from health care providers to Job Service will be open throughout the day. Sessions begin at 9 a.m. with a presentation on marriage and stress by Dr. Val Farmer, clinical psychologist and newspaper columnist from Fargo.

Other presenters include:

  • Helen Danielson, coordinator of special programs at Lutheran Rural Response, a part of Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota.
  • Lowell Nelson, a former family farmer from Sabin, Minn., who now works with Transitions, a program of Lutheran Rural Response. Nelson’s message of life after farming has been featured in numerous radio, television and newspaper interviews.
  • Raymond Siegle, senior pastor of Sharon Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. Siegle leads workshops on communication and listening for business, industry, service agencies and churches.
  • Roger Johnson, North Dakota Commissioner of Agriculture.
  • Jeff Knudson, North Dakota Ag Mediation Service.
  • Ron Fuchs of the Jamestown accounting firm of Schauer and Associates. He will discuss the tax implications of leaving farming.

The conference will conclude at about 5 p.m. For more information, contact your county office of the NDSU Extension Service or call (701) 253-6209 or (800) 247-0988, Ext. 6209.
