July 12 Field Day Set for NDSU Williston Research Extension Center

New crop varieties and crop management topics will be highlights of the annual field day at the North Dakota State University Williston Research Extension Center scheduled for Thursday, July 12. The center is located 4 1/2 miles west of Williston on U.S. Highway 2.

The day’s events will open with coffee at 8:45 a.m. (CDT) with the crops field tour beginning at 9:30 a.m. NDSU resarch and extension specialists will discuss small grain crop varieties, weed control, crop diseases and high value crops. A horticulture program will begin at 10 a.m. in the Ernie French Center and will feature lawn, garden and flower topics.

A noon lunch is sponsored by area agribusinesses and the Williston Chamber of Commerce Agricultural Committee.

The afternoon program will start at 1:15 p.m. and will feature presentations on tractor ballasting and drive wheel slippage, wheat midge and other insects and control of Ascochyta blight in lentils and chickpeas. The program will conclude at about 3:15 p.m.
