Handling of Soybeans and Other Identity Preserved Crops Highlight Workshop

Delivering the Goods: Fine Tuning Harvest and Post Harvest Handling of Soybeans and Other IP Crops is the theme of a workshop to be held in Moorhead Minnesota on July 30. The workshop will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Earthwise Processors, LLC which is located at 4111 30th Ave. S., in Moorhead.

The workshop is part of a four-year educational program on specialty and IP crops being developed by the North Dakota State University Extension Service according to David Kraenzel, an Extension Service agribusiness development specialist. The purpose of the program is to provide timely educational programs that support industry.

Some of the workshop topics include:

  • Recognizing physiological maturity in IP crops by Denise McWilliams, North Dakota State University and University of Minnesota crop production specialist.
  • Considerations for maintaining varietal purity in the field will be discussed by Galen Schroeder, with the NDSU Foundation Seed Program.
  • Harvesting and storage of speciality and IP crops by Vern Hofman, with the NDSU Extension Service’s ag. and biosystems engineering department.
  • Identity preserved certifications/considerations discussed by Tom Sinner, director of the North Dakota State Seed department’s field seed programs.
  • A "hands on" live demonstration of in field combine adjustments will be presented by representatives of Case IH.
