Handling of Soybeans and Other Identity Preserved Crops Highlight Workshop

Fine tuning harvest and post harvest handling of soybeans and other identity preserved crops is the theme of a workshop to be held in Casselton on Aug. 30. The workshop will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Unity Seed Inc. located on County Road 10 just outside of Casselton. There is no registration fee.

The workshop is part of a four-year educational program on specialty and IP crops being developed by the North Dakota State University Extension Service according to David Kraenzel, an Extension Service agribusiness development specialist. The purpose of the program is to provide timely educational programs that support industry.

Workshop topics include:

  • Considerations for maintaining varietal purity in the field will be discussed by Galen Schroeder, NDSU Foundation Seed Program.
  • Harvesting and storage of speciality and IP crops by Vern Hofman, NDSU Extension Service’s ag. and biosystems engineering department.
  • Identity preserved certifications/considerations by Tom Sinner, director of the North Dakota State Seed department’s field seed programs.
  • A "hands on" demonstration of in-field combine adjustments presented by representatives of Case IH and the John Deere Company.

The workshop is co-sponsored by the NDSU Extension Service, Unity Seed, Inc., John Deere Co. and Case IH. For more information contact David Kraenzel at (701) 231-7393.
