Cattle Backgrounding and Feeding Seminars Set for OctoberA series of seminars to give cattle feeders information for managing risk and production will be held across North Dakota in October. "North Dakota’s producers will soon be weaning calves born this year," notes Karl Hoppe, North Dakota State University Extension livestock specialist at the NDSU Carrington Research Extension Center. "The decisions they make for feeding those calves after weaning should be based on market outlook and the cost of feeding. These seminars will help them determine the potential profitability of those decisions." The free seminars will be held from 1 p.m. to about 4:30 p.m. and will feature a market outlook and information on rations and cost of grain, cattle feeding break evens and cattle feeding financing opportunities. Locations and dates include:
The seminars are sponsored by the NDSU Extension Service, the N.D. Department of Agriculture, the Bank of North Dakota, N.D. Ag Mediation, N.D. Stockmen’s Association Feeder Council. The seminars at each site will follow morning sessions designed to update bankers and credit professionals in the state with cattle feeding economics in North Dakota.
