Tri-State Cow-Calf Management School Scheduled for Amidon Feb. 19 - 20Tri-state Cow-Calf Management School will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 19 and 20, in Amidon, N.D., to update cow-calf producers on range management, nutrition, reproduction, genetics and other topics. "Beef cattle producers are being challenged with narrowing margins and continuing pressure to reduce production costs," says Greg Lardy, North Dakota State University beef specialist and one of the school’s instructors. "This workshop will provide a sound educational basis for making production and marketing decisions." The school is open to cow-calf producers, lenders and other industry professionals. The class is limited to 25 participants and registration will continue until Feb. 12 or until the class is full. The registration fee of $75 per person includes meals and reference materials. The school is sponsored by the extension services at NDSU, Montana State University and South Dakota State University. The school opens at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19. Sessions for the day will focus on beef cattle nutrition, ration balancing and range management. An evening session on ranch planning with emphasis on ration balancing, forages, pasture and forage planning and range improvements will include time for one-on-one consultation between participants and instructors from NDSU, SDSU and MSU. Sessions on Wednesday, Feb. 20, will focus on reproduction, heifer development, genetics, herd health and business management.
