NDSU Schedules Tractor Safety Schools

A series of tractor safety schools will be offered across North Dakota to help young drivers get a safer start in operating tractors.

The three-day schools, sponsored by the North Dakota State University Extension Service, include classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction. They are intended for youth between the ages of 14 and 16. Younger students may attend. Students 14 years of age or older who complete the course will receive a U.S. Department of Labor Certificate of Training. The certificate permits a minor younger than 16 to drive a tractor and operate identified farm machinery for hire.

The tractor safety schools will meet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Space in the schools is limited so preregistration is recommended. Following is a list of dates and locations for the schools and individuals to contact for more information or to register:

  • May 21 - 23 in Finley. Contact Steele County extension Agent Brian Gion at (701) 524-1715.
  • June 4 - 6 in Park River. Contact Walsh County Extension Agent Brad Brummond at (701) 284-7383.
  • June 11-13 in Carrington. Contact Stutsman County Extension Agent Tom Olson at (701) 251-2969.
