Project, Food, Land & People Workshops Offered for Educators

Project Food, Land & People workshops will be offered across the state this summer for North Dakota K-12 teachers. These workshops are sponsored by the North Dakota Agriculture in the Classroom Council.

The FLP lessons focus on the interrelationships between agriculture, the environment and people of the world. Jill Vigesaa, state FLP coordinator, said FLP lesson plans offer hands-on learning and help students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Lesson topics include Investigating Insects; Breads Around the World; Root, Root for Life; Global Grocery Bags; Trash Bashing, and 50 more.

"These lesson plans fit in with and supplement everyday subject matter," Vigesaa said. "They give students and teachers the opportunity to explore new ideas, concepts and materials in a way that enhances and expands their learning experience."

The 15-hour workshops will be held throughout North Dakota in June and August:

  • June 17-18 Fargo
  • August 1-2 Medora
  • August 6-7 Wahpeton
  • August 13-14 Minot
  • August 15-16 Jamestown
  • August 19-20 Grand Forks

One 600-level credit from North Dakota State University may be received. Registration is $75 for NDSU credit and $35 with no NDSU credit. Scholarships will be provided to the first 12 people to register for each workshop. A $150 scholarship will be awarded to students earning credit and $100 without credit.
