Extension Agronomist Named by NDSU
Joel K. Ransom has been named to the position of extension agronomist in
the North Dakota State University Department of Plant Sciences, according to
department chair Al Schneiter.
Ransom has been leader of a regional maize project in Nepal for CIMMYT,
the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center. He will be responsible
for extension programs in small grains and corn at NDSU. He will join the
faculty in mid September and will participate in the NDSU research extension
center field days in July.
A native of Idaho, Ransom is a graduate of Brigham Young University and
received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Minnesota.
Prior to his work in Nepal, Ransom helped develop techniques for
screening wheat germplasm for stress tolerance, tested wheat genotypes in
northern Mexico and was a regional maize agronomist for CIMMYT in East
Africa.
