NDSU Center in Hettinger Sets Field Tours for July 9

Updates on grain legume and small grain production will be highlights of field tours, Tuesday, July 9, at the North Dakota State University Hettinger Research Extension Center.

The center is located on the west edge of Hettinger along U.S. Highway 12. For more information, call (701) 567-4323. The grain legume tour begins at 2:30 p.m. (MDT) and will feature presentations on lentil, field pea, chickpea and soybean production from researchers, processors and consultants. There will also be information on weed control challenges in legumes and the N.D. Dry Pea and Lentil Association.

The small grain tour will begin at 5 p.m. (MDT). Highlights will include updates an hard red spring wheat, durum, barley, oat and hard red winter wheat breeding programs at NDSU. Specialists will also outline policies and goals of NDSU’s work with transgenic crops. There will also be presentations on biofuels.

Following the program, a lunch will be served at Mirror Lake sponsored by the Hettinger Chamber of Commerce, the N.D. Dry Pea and Lentil Association and BASF.

Specialists at the center are also involved in planning the State Line crops tour at Selfridge July 11, the Regent crops tour at 6 p.m. July 17 the New Leipzig crops tour July 18 at 6 p.m. and the Scranton crops tour at 6 p.m. July 19.
