NDSU Field Day at Langdon Set for July 18

Research updates and the latest recommendations for crop production and management will be highlights of the annual field day at the North Dakota State University Langdon Research Extension Center.

The center is located a mile east of Langdon on N.D. Highway 5 and 1/4 mile south on a gravel road. The day’s events open at 8 a.m. with refreshments. Ken Grafton, new director of the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station, will greet visitors and give comments at 8:30. Randy Mehlhoff, director of the Langdon center, will give an update on the status of the proposed Vic Sturlaugson Agricultural Learning Center project.

NDSU specialists will discuss goals and policies regarding transgenic crop research at NDSU. A biofuels demonstration is also scheduled.

Plot tours will feature small grain and row-crop disease updates, summaries of flax disease research, information on weed problems in canola and emerging herbicide resistance concerns and a soybean production overview. Specialists will also discuss field pea production, canola insect management and variety development in durum, hard red spring wheat and barley. There will also be information on June berry, onion, cabbage and carrot production.

A free noon lunch will be followed by a one hour in-field weed workshop.
