Feedlot School to Be Held in Fargo

A two-day intensive course teaching the principles of feedlot production, nutrition, management and marketing will be held at the Northern Crops Institute in Fargo on Sept. 10 and 11.

The course is aimed at cattle producers, feeders, backgrounders, feed industry personnel, animal health suppliers or anyone interested in learning more about managing feedlot cattle. Participants will be trained by North Dakota State University faculty from the Northern Crops Institute, animal and range sciences department and Carrington Research and Extension Center. Topics will include all aspects of feedlot management including nutrition, waste management, business planning and marketing.

The course will start Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m. and continue until 7:45 p.m. Topics include feeding and receiving programs, feeds and animal requirements, feed additives, implanting and ration formulation. The school will end on Wednesday, Sept. 11 with hands-on training beginning at 7:30 a.m. Waste management and marketing and business management will be among topics discussed with the program ending at 4:00 p.m.

Registration is $100. The cost covers the materials distributed and meals during the course. The course is limited to only 25 participants and pre-registration by Sept. 6 is required.
