NDSU Sheep School Set for Dec. 5-6 in Bismarck

Sheep management, nutrition, breeding, new technology and other topics will be covered in a two-day sheep school scheduled for Thursday and Friday, Dec. 5 and 6 in Bismarck.

"The school’s broad focus makes it excellent training for new producers," says Roger Haugen, North Dakota State University Extension Service sheep specialist. "But the school also provides a thorough review for long-time producers. We’ve also included updates and new technology and techniques that will be of help to nearly any producer."

Tuition is $25 per person or $35 for two people from the same operation. Tuition includes noon meals for both days. Participation will be limited to the first 25 operations to enroll. The deadline for enrollment is Friday, Nov. 29. The school will be held at the Burleigh County Extension Office. The school is sponsored by the NDSU Extension Service at the NDSU Hettinger Research Extension Center.

To receive a registration packet or for more information on the school or housing, contact Tim Faller, NDSU Hettinger Research Extension Center, Box 1377 Hettinger, ND 58639, (701) 567-4323, tfaller@ndsuext.nodak.edu , or Roger Haugen, NDSU, Hultz Hall, Box 5053, Fargo, ND 58105-5053, (701) 231-7645, rohaugen@ndsuext.nodak.edu

Health, nutrition, breeding strategies, marketing, enterprise analysis, facilities and other topics will be included in the course. Instructors will come from NDSU and the sheep industry.

The last day of the school will coincide with the opening of the North Dakota Lamb and Wool Producers’ annual convention set for Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7. The convention will be held at the Seven Seas Motel and Convention Center in Mandan.
