Wild World of Weeds Workshop Set for Jan. 14 in FargoThe North Dakota State University Wild World of Weeds Workshop will be Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the Ramada Plaza Suites in Fargo. The workshop is for agricultural professionals who advise growers with weed control and herbicide use recommendations. The program is designed for crop consultants, agronomists, agricultural dealers and distributors, extension agents, and industry representatives. The workshop will feature information from weed scientists at NDSU and the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service. Topics will include a 2002 field research summary, background on novel research on perennial weed control, weed resistance to glyphosate, weed species shifts in glyphosate-resistant crops and identifying and controlling new noxious and troublesome weeds. Specialists will also outline concepts and utility of reduced herbicides and new micro-rate recommendations in small grains, corn, and legume crops. All participants will receive a CD-ROM copy of the WeedIT - NDSU Weed Science data base and the program will be previewed by developers. There will also be a question-and-answer period with all weed researchers. Lodging arrangements can be made by calling the Ramada Plaza Suites at (701) 277-9000. The workshop is open to all but participants must pre-register and pre-pay to prepare adequate printed material and for an accurate lunch count. The program will feature six hours of educational sessions on soil and fertility issues.
