Annual Sheep Day to be Held at the Hettinger Research CenterThe annual sheep day sponsored by the North Dakota State University Hettinger Research Extension Center will be Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 9:30 a.m. (MST) to 4:00 p.m. The day begins with coffee and registration at the Hettinger Armory followed by an early bird door prize drawing for a Columbia ewe lamb that will be given away at the end of the program. The morning program will feature NDSU research reports on studies conducted at both Fargo and Hettinger. Research highlights will include:
In addition to research reports, Leif Anderson, assistant animal scientist at the Hettinger Research Extension Center, will provide information on the Southwest Feeders. Concluding the morning program will be Jay Daniel, sheep scientist at South Dakota State University, discussing adding value to lamb by evaluating and reducing the incidence of lung lesions. A lamb dinner will be served at the armory at noon. The afternoon program beings at 1:10. Rodney Kott, sheep specialist at Montana State University, will discuss how to take advantage of the new wool support program. Stress management in your sheep herd will be reviewed by Roger Haugen, NDSU livestock specialist. The afternoon’s final presenter will be Gerald Kennedy from the Pipestone Veterinary Clinic. He will provide producers with information on sheep health pitfalls and opportunities. Burton Pfliger of the North Dakota Lamb and Wool Producers Association will give closing comments.
