Dates Set for 2003
Sugarbeet Growers Seminars
Four educational
meetings designed for sugarbeet growers are set for January and February. The first seminar
is Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the Fargo Holiday Inn. The second, on Thursday, Jan.
30, will be held at the Wahpeton Eagles Club. The third seminar is scheduled
for the Grafton Parish Center on Tuesday, Feb. 4, and the final seminar is
slated for Thursday, Feb. 6, at the Grand Forks Ramada Inn. Each of these
seminars will begin with coffee at 9:00 a.m. and conclude about 2:00 p.m.
Each seminar
consists of three sessions. The first session will focus on weed control in
sugarbeets. The presenter is Alan Dexter, sugarbeet weed specialist for the
North Dakota State University Extension Service and the University of
Minnesota Extension Service. The second session
features plant pathologists Larry Smith, University of Minnesota, and Carl
Bradley, NDSU Extension Service. Smith will offer a new look at disease
control for financial gain. Bradley’s presentation is on managing
rhizomania. Those attending the
Grafton meeting will also hear from Mark Boetel, research and extension
entomologist at NDSU. Boetel will discuss the management of insect pests in
sugarbeets. At noon, there will
be a Dutch-treat luncheon available for attendees. Free coffee and
refreshments will be provided throughout the day. Everyone is invited and
admission to the seminars is free. Continuing Education Units will be
offered to Certified Crop Advisors. Contact Mohamed Khan at (701) 231-8596
for any additional information. These seminars are
sponsored by the NDSU and the U of M extension services and the states'
agricultural experiment stations, along with the U.S. Department of
Agriculture and the Sugarbeet Research and Education Board of Minnesota and
North Dakota. ###
