North Dakota Dairy Cow College ScheduledThe North Dakota Dairy Cow College will be held at sites across the state Feb. 3-7. The program is a shared effort of the Midwest Dairy Association and the North Dakota State University Extension Service. Meetings will open at 11 a.m. with an ADA district meeting. That meeting will be followed by educational sessions on newborn calf development, foreign animal diseases and biosecurity, issues of bioterrorism and a question and answer period. Featured speakers for the event include Jon Van Berkom, North Dakota assistant state veterinarian, and J.W. Schroeder, NDSU extension dairy specialist. Van Berkom will provide an overview of foreign animal diseases, the potential threat to North Dakota producers and the importance of sound biosecurity practices. He’ll also discuss bioterrorism issues. Schroeder will discuss the influence of management on healthy newborn calves and review dairy research at NDSU.
