NDSU to Offer On-Line Accounting Course

North Dakota State University is offering Fundamentals of Accounting over the Internet beginning Monday, April 7.

The three-credit, eight-week course will allow participants to gain the knowledge and skills of basic accounting, explains Paul Brown, MBA Director and Senior Lecturer in the NDSU Department of Management, Marketing and Finance/College of Business Administration. "The material covered in the course is similar to a traditional classroom section, but students can participate anytime or anywhere," he says.

"We expect this course to be of value to people are looking to build on their current accounting skills or to start gaining the knowledge they need for a future in the accounting field," Brown says.

Example chapter titles that will be covered are Financial Statements and Accounting Concepts/Principles, The Bookkeeping Process and Transaction Analysis, Accounting for and Presentation of Owners' Equity, and Financial Statement Analysis. The learner will develop a basic understanding of financial statements, financial statement analysis and how accounting information is used in business decision making.

The course begins Monday, April 7 and is open to a limited number of on-line participants. For more information or to obtain a registration permit, contact Jodi Erickson of the College of Business Administration at (701) 231-8651 or jodi.erickson@ndsu.nodak.edu.  Refer to On-line ACCT 102 and section 64793.

"The class is ideal for students who want to receive college credit and develop some accounting skills but have other activities that hinder them from getting to campus three days a week," Brown says.

Weekly lessons will be offered over the Internet so students can study during weekends or listen to lectures as their schedules permit. The only requirement is that students have a computer with access to the World Wide Web, Real Player and an open-minded attitude toward learning in a new way.
