USDA Food Safety Mobile to be at the Greater Grand Forks Fair and Exhibition

The USDA Food Safety Mobile will be at the Greater Grand Forks Fair and Exhibition July 11 and 12. The fair is located at the Alerus Center.

The USDA Food Safety Mobile is a form of "mobile messaging" to educate and reinforce to consumers the importance of handling food safely, according to Kari Houge, North Dakota State University Extension Service registered dietitian. USDA food safety experts will be with the Mobile to demonstrate safe food handling, thermometer usage and answer food safety questions.

The Food Safety Mobile is coming to the fair through a cooperative effort of USDA and the NDSU Extension Service. "The NDSU Extension Service strongly supports food safety," Houge says. "We want consumers to know how to handle their food safely."

The first 50 people to visit the mobile on July 11 will receive a free food safety magnet.

The hours are from 2:30 p.m. until dark on Friday, July 11 and from noon until dark on Saturday, July 12.

More information about the Food Safety Mobile is available at http://www.fsis.usda.gov/foodsafetymobile/
